Top Tips When Buying A New Car
The process of buying a new car isn’t always easy, it often results in a drawn-out process which can be tiring and also expensive. We often ask our customers if they’re looking to save some of their hard-earned dollars, their answer isn’t surprising, its “Yes, definitely. How do we get started?” Here at AV & K. we’ve come up with a set of free negotiation tips and tricks taken directly from our ‘playbook’ (Don’t tell the boss!). These tips and tricks can be applied to any type of good or service, but for the purpose of this post, we’re going to tailor our free information around purchasing a new car.
Do. Your. Research.
When you’re spending several thousands of dollars, it often pays to do your research. It’s crucial you understand the market by researching which other vehicles are for sale in the same segment. This will help you to gauge an “average price” for vehicles of similar specifications, size, age and condition. Familiarise yourself with your research as you’ll want to vocalise this information to a sales rep. This will show them you’ve done your due-diligence.Stay calm
Read the title again… read it? Great. Portraying confidence and staying calm when looking to buy a new vehicle is paramount. Desperation will more times than not, cost you hard earned dollars. Plan ahead and know your limit, a salesman who pesters you may get a little frustrating, but don’t give in. Set yourself a budget and have a backup price, it’s not a dollar amount you’d spend straight away, but if you have no choice, it should be a price you know you can afford. This goes without saying, but try and avoid disclosing this information.Avoid believing the catch-phrases
“The deal is only available till the end of the day; it’ll be off the table by 5pm and we won’t be able to offer it again”. Yeah, right. The car you’re buying is not likely to be the only remaining vehicle in New Zealand. In most instances, you could go back to the dealership the next day, or any other dealership and get the same/similar deal. Remember, the dealer wants your business. You should only buy a vehicle once you’ve evaluated all your options and are 100% happy with the set of conditions and price of the vehicle.
These three simple tips can save you a significant amount of time and money.
